UK leading in sales of detachables across Western Europe
UK has overtaken Germany in detachable sales with over 300,000 units sold as of Q1 2016 and boosting Apple market share in the region.
Last September, IDC data showed Germany ahead of all countries in Western Europe in terms of sales of detachables or 2-in-1 devices. Now, however, the UK has taken the crown with over 300,000 detachables sold as of Q1 2016. This accounted for 23 percent of all detachables shipped to Western Europe during the quarter.
Looking deeper into the statistics shows that the iPad Pro accounted for a large proportion of sold detachables and gave Apple the boost it needed to obtain a 21 percent market share in the region. Unfortunately, the IDC data shows no corresponding values for other European countries and so these UK numbers cannot be compared directly to other regions at this time.
The table below shows the top five manufacturers for Smart Connected Devices (PCs, laptops, smartphones, detachables, and tablets) in the UK. The overall market is down 13.4 percent compared to Q1 2015 with Samsung in particular experiencing a 39 percent decline in shipments compared to just 2.1 percent from Apple. HP, Lenovo, and LG all performed better with growth in the single-digit percentages each
